3DS Max Project Reel

This is a video comprised of all the projects associated with the 3D Training Institute's courses.

Ocean View Render

This was the final project for the 3D Training Institute's 3DS Max I Class. The basic commands were applied to create a photo realistic render, with the help of lighting, material creation and UVW Mapping. Everything in this view was created from scratch; most being made simply from a box command.

With the help of Photoshop and Gimp, I was first able to adjust bitmap images to create a spec/reflection map and a bump map. From there I added a background image and adjusted lighting levels by using the Levels command and adding masks to edit the ambient occlusion levels.

Car Modeling

The second assignment of the 3D Training Institute's 3DS Max II Class involved the creation of a vehicle. Starting with reference images and line segments, I was able to create the mesh for my car. Adding swift loops, solving for quads and adjusting the turbosmooth; I created a realistic Volkswagen Jetta.

This was the first time I have worked with an HDR images and with the use of lighting and shadows, a realistic image was captured.

Logo Animation

Creating a seven second animation for a chosen company-TV channel was the focus of this project. I decided to create and use Leafs TV as the primary logo, along with the Toronto Maple Leafs logo since they come hand-in-hand. With a lot of moving, rotating, scaling, and the use of partical systems and lighting, I was able to animate them through 210 frames. This was my first animation project, and a successful one for the second 3DS Max Class at the 3D Training Institute.

Character Animation

With the character rig process being taught and also supplied, the goal of this 3DS Max Class at the 3D Training Institute was to animate the rig to a movie scene. In this case I chose a scene from Toy Story 2 and animated the character rig to Woody's actions and voice. This included using the Auto Key and Set Key functions while rotating, moving and scaling the controllers.

In the final design I chose to distant the character from Woody's physical appearance and go for a more casual teenager look. By doing so I worked with the Hair and Fur Modifier, and customized materials for brand name clothing.

Overall this was a fun project, and one that was different than the kind of work I am used to.

Render Practice

A living room render was the preparation project for the 3DS Max Class at 3D Training Institute. Here I learned about basic commands, creating and editing objects, assigning materials, working with lights and cameras, and rendering a final product.
